I’m writing to you from a very unfamiliar place–that of an unemployed radio personality. I haven’t been able to say that in 25 years, so the notion of it is more than just a little weird to me.
Monday, I lost my job at 93Q, where I had been working the past 16 years. It was a particularly difficult thing, since I’m pretty sure that no one at my place of work wanted it to happen. It was one of those corporate mandates designed to cut costs in an economy where that is becoming a frighteningly everyday occurance.
At this point, I truly don’t know what is next. I have some personal medical issues that will probably be better handled without the pressure of having to return to work. More on that in a short while–for now, I will say that the timing may be a blessing in disguise. That sort of thing is hard to know when it happens, but I may yet find that it was the best possible thing to occur at the time.
I’m not sure what direction this creation will take from here. My postings were always a direct reflection of the work I was doing at the radio station, so I’m just not sure it makes much sense to continue to do it while I’m not part of that world. But I will continue to contribute in some way. Keep watching this space for developments…I hope I have some soon!

You are certainly missed — by absolutely everyone. The studio is a quiet, sad place after Ted & Amy, now. We hope that things turn around and we can get you back as soon as possible.
With love,
Josh
Jim,
The big guy with the great voice. I’ll miss you a lot. Hope you can make it back someday, and definitely keep in touch! I know I’ll see you around, but it still sucks….
Hey Big Jim!
Remember me?
I’ve been in your position MANY times and once from the very building. You’ll be fine. Rest up. enjoy life a little bit and before long you’ll be back at it.
would love to hear from you. be well.

Hi Big Jim,
Can I just say how bummed I am to know that you’re not at 93Q anymore? But I hope you’re at least proud of what you’ve accomplished in your 16 years there. You’ve seen 93Q programming philosophies change, Top 40 music change, technology change from carts to CDs to automation, and you’ve seen the company change ownership several times. You’ve been through a lot of Syracuse history…and to me, you are a part of Syracuse history. I definitely looked up to you when I was there and I want to thank you for treating me – the overnight guy at the time – as a radio equal. I truly appreciated it and all of your words of radio wisdom you gave to me. Oh, and thanks again for giving me a ride home when my car was in the shop in 1995 (when was it NOT in the shop at the time)! I hope you turn up on the radio waves somewhere in Syracuse or wherever you’d like to be.
Take care,
JD Redman

Hey Jim, remember me from your days in Seattle? We’ve not spoken in a long time but I still think about you and wondered how you are. I’ve just finished reading your last several entries here. So sorry to hear about your unexpected departure. Sure don’t understand that one. I, for one, know how you loved the radio biz,and how great you are at it. If you’ll remember, even got me to pursue that line of work for some time even though it never panned out for me, I still wonder how my life would be different now if it had. Anyway, just wanted to say a quick hello and I know things will rebound for you as they always do. I’ve been working the past 5 years as a dealer in a tribal casino here in the Seattle area and love it. Take care my friend.
